About the National Aquarium, Washington, DC
The National Aquarium was established in 1873 as the nation's first aquarium. It has been located in the Department of Commerce building since 1932, and completed an extreme makeover in 2008. Although limited in space, it offers an intimate home to more than 250 species, and offers visitors a unique 45-minute experience featuring America's Aquatic Treasures™.
