Washington DC public school groups are admitted free of charge with proper identification.

All other school groups must make a single payment to qualify for the group rates.

Rates

  • Students (Ages 2 to 10):
    $1.25 per student
  • Students (Ages 11 to 18):
    $2.50 per student
  • Chaperones:
    One free admission for every 10 students
  • Additional Chaperones:
    $5.00 per person

Educational Programs
Educational Programs may also be scheduled with no additional fee. Reservations are required. Space is limited and classroom sessions fill up quickly.

National Aquarium Educational Programs meet National Science Standards.

Course Offerings
Story-time (15 minutes) pre-K-K
Story-time sessions include a story from the work of children’s author Suzanne Tate. Story-time sessions include the story, and a visit to an exhibit or touch tank. Choose from the following titles: Ellie & Ollie Eel; Great Sharky Shark; Harry Horseshoe Crab; Izzie Lizzie Alligator; Oozey Octopus; Spiny Sea Star; Stevie B. Seahorse; Tammy Turtle

What is a Fish? (30 minutes) grades K-1
Students learn how fish are different from other animals and how these characteristics make them well adapted for survival in their watery environment.

How to be a Fish Detective (30 minutes) grades 2-4
Students learn about the characteristics of fish and their adaptations for survival in their environment. Activity worksheets to be completed while at the Aquarium accompany this lecture.

Secrets of the Shark (30 minutes) grades 1-4
Students learn about sharks’ unique biology, separate fact from fiction about these misunderstood animals, and become aware of the threats sharks are facing.

Coral Reefs* (45 minutes) grades 4-6
Often called “rainforests of the sea,” coral reefs provide numerous services to animals and people. Students learn how these environments play a vital role in our ocean ecosystem and why they need protection.

Amphibians & Reptiles* (30-45 minutes) grades 4-6
Students learn that there is a lot more to these creepy and crawly animals. Students will understand the differences between amphibians and reptiles, their importance in our environment, and what problems they are encountering.

Endangered Species* (45 minutes-1 hour) grades 5-7
Students gain background knowledge about the Endangered Species Act, learn why animals are becoming endangered, and understand why biodiversity benefits us all.

Estuaries* (30-45 minutes) grades 4-6
Using the Chesapeake Bay as a model, students learn how estuaries play an important role for wildlife and why their health and preservation is crucial for the survival of numerous species.
