NEW! Teacher Training Program The National Aquarium in Washington, D.C. is proud to present a new teacher training program. "Aquatic and Marine Science for Today's Classroom Teacher" is a program designed exclusively for District of Columbia Public Schools and Public Charter Schools.
"Aquatic and Marine Science for Today's Classroom Teacher" is provided free to the teachers in the District of Columbia Public Schools through generous funding from the Toyota USA Foundation. The foundation supports innovative education programs serving grades K-12, with special emphasis on mathematics and science.
This program will introduce aquatic and marine science concepts to school teachers in the District of Columbia, developing their skills in teaching these sciences. The workshops will explain how aquatic and marine sciences address the National Science Education Standards (NSES) and the Science Standards for the District of Columbia Public Schools. The NSES were designed to “guide our nation toward a scientifically literate society” (National Academy of Sciences, 1996). We will also guide teachers in ways they can use the National Aquarium, along with their students, to meet these standards.
